In many cultures the solar deities are thought of as male while the lunar deity is female. But did you know that in Norse mythology the opposite was true? Sól, meaning "sun" in Old Norse, was a solar goddess believed to personify the Sun. She is described as the sister of Máni, a lunar god, who personifies the Moon.
Sól and Máni emerged with the creation of the Cosmos. It is beautiful that "Sól" should be pronounced like the English word "soul", defined as the principle of life, thought and action, as well as the spiritual part of humans.
The Sun is the bestower of light and life, with the most universal connection of light to the Cosmos. The Sun brings enlightenment and is the source of wisdom.
Essentially, we all carry both female and male energy within us, regardless of our gender. We exist because we have a Mother and a Father. We are Yin and Yang. We are children of both the Sun and the Moon.
